Is anybody else as excited as I am about the Tarantula? I can't wait. We have some pretty big ideas that we will discuss with the club, when we get it all worked out. If anybody has any ideas we would love to here all about them. So please don't hold anything back, if you have any ideas, lets hear them. Aaron

Hey sounds like we,re on the same page on this one. Except I,m still kind of torn on the whole 4-wheeler issue, And I would love to do a mass start and a smoke bomb, and I,d really love to be able to go south of the amrad. I think vintage classes would be cool.

you guys had issues with quads? so are the quads not racing?

and whats a smoke bomb start? like shotgun start? i just know dead engine, hands on your head start (aka prison break start).

We havent really had any major issues with quads, mainly just a lack of help and support from quad riders. When we used to do smoke bombs we would line everybody up @ one time all side by side and light asmoke bomb shoot off gun and everybody would go cross country for the first 5 miles or so to the smoke and then funnel into a trail. Now we just start by class and spread everybody out a little bit. We will probly run quads, not sure yet. If we do they dont start untill all the bikes are completly finished. I dont have a N.M.D.R.C. schedule but we do have a link to there website on our links @ the top of our page, and they have more info on the dessert series.

My suggestion for the 2010 Tarantula is to keep doing what you have for the past 12 years. I have enjoyed every year immensely. I do not like mass starts- the decreased visibility, crowding, and mixing riders of widely divergent skill levels seriously elevates the danger of personal injury. Maybe its just me, but I enjoy racing the track and dislike being run over.

Thank you for your input Jim. We will be going to do the start the same way we have been.I do agree about the added risk of being ran over.Thank you for letting us know how much you injoy the Tarantula. It means alot to us, and we'll try to keep putting on the best, funnest events we can.

Hello All, I have been busy lately and missed some meetings but as or the Tarantula. I think you all have done a great job the last few years I have been there and I would like to see the experts race a real race and go at least 150 miles. Longer laps would be nice but short laps (50) miles are ok and the racers get faster each lap as they remember the course. It makes for some great riding. Is 200 miles out of the question some year? Lets make this a real "Desert" race for the Experts who might enjoy a longer race.      Thanks ,  Jim H.

Yea I was thinking like a 150 for the experts,100 for amateurs,50 for novice and a short 25 or 30 for beg or anyone who wants to ride a short course.

Other than being an AMA member, do I need to be a member of anything else to do this race? Also, is this race close to a town/city? Finally, what is the entry cost/s? Thanks!!!

You won't need any other memberships. The pit area is located about 22 miles south of Alamogordo,NM on US Highway 54 near mile marker 45. Entry fees are $30 for Mini short coarse. $60 for pro classes, and $50 for all others. Add $20 for late entrys. You will need a transponder to be scored they are $20 and you will get $15 back after the race when you return it. We also have a pre ride-poker run on saturday, it is $10 to ride and prizes will be handed out to high and low hands.
